Went to see a show at Nettie Horn Gallery in Vyner Street London yesterday. There was a 9 minute animation by the Bluesoup Group– (founded in 1996 in Moscow by four architects) The animation features a fabricated corner of a room, furnished only by a dust sheet covered arm chair, a door and an air vent. A sequence of strange events occur as an industrial hum permeates the surroundings.
I also enjoyed work by Caline Aoun, who exhibited a series of frosted covered boxes with traces of an image and a hint of colour emerging from behind its surface. The work is soft and cloud like with deffused candy colours which delicately taunts the viewer by concealing what really lies beneath.
Shannon Finley, currently working in Berlin, Finley’s work depicts glittering and glowing shards of colour amidst rich chocolate browns and muted greys. The thick slices of sumptuous paint, perfectly slice through each other, creating complex layerings of colour and space. The precision surface alters when the paint is scraped and pushed over the canvas edges to create a ‘caramelised’ and uneven border.
